Our Verdict: RoboBrew V3 Electric Brewing System With Pump

Before anything else, let me just appreciate the fact that RoboBrew is humble enough to listen to its community, thus the version 3 of this particular brewing system….and that makes them kings of improvement in my opinion.

Version 3 means there were other models that went before this one.

Apparently…

The steel was either too flimsy or the chiller was too weak.

We just know one thing now, and that is this is the product of RoboBrew’s relationship with their customers and turning the bad reviews into an advantage.

The price point seems really fair and if you’re completely new to all grain brewing and don’t want to invest in expensive equipment yet, this RoboBrew V3 fits the bill.

But…

That doesn’t necessarily mean that the quality is as low as its price.

Let’s talk about the material.

RoboBrew V3 with Pump Electric Brewing System

While users complained that the earlier version had very thin and sharp steel material that’s easily dented, the company took it up a notch this time with thicker steel walls and it even has a cap at the bottom of the malt pipe so it’s not too sharp to the touch.

Kudos to that!

Assembly was fairly easy. I only had to attach the handle for the lid, the built-in spigot, and the 1D silicone tubing and I was good to go.

Heating process was also simple, a plus point for the beginners.

This unit uses two heating elements with the other one having 1000 watts of power and the other 500 watts. It has 2 individual switches for each element so you can use just one or both should you want to ramp up the strike water temperature.

Thanks to its improved circuit board, it also boasts of automatic step mashing functions to turn a usually stressful brew day into an easy and breezy one.

The step mashing function allows you to choose how many stages you’ll need and set mash temp and mash schedule with its built-in temperature controller so you can personalize everything according to your preference.

In case you want to skip a step, just set the timer to zero and the system will automatically skip it.

Included in the step mashing function are the boil addition timers that’ll tell you when it’s time to put the hops or other additions in case you become too occupied with house chores while waiting.

Like most home brewing systems today…

…it also features a delayed start timer with the only difference being that this brewing system is much cheaper but with the same function.

Using the delayed start function proved really convenient for me. I woke up the morning of brew day with a hot mash water ready and waiting for me.

These functions can be accessed through the unit’s onboard water resistant control panel.

And just like its more expensive contemporaries, the RoboBrew V3 also comes with a stainless steel malt pipe with false bottom.

As I’ve said earlier…

The malt pipe has a much thicker and more solid feel to it compared to the first version. You can knock it on the corner of your table and it won’t dent easily.

Oh and it also has a cap or sleeve at the bottom edge so it’s safer to the touch.

Inside the vessel, there were volume markers to guide the brewer. Before using, I tested out the accuracy of these markings and thankfully, they’re accurate this time.

And of course…

How can I forget the built-in magnetic drive pump for recirculation?

Thoughtfully enough, an extra silicone tubing also came with the package so I attached it to the recirculation arm to maintain constant heat while I was monitoring temperatures throughout the mash.

After mashing the grains, all I had to do was raise the malt pipe and let the extracts drain. The pump for recirculation also proved useful when I was sparging the grains with water.

Aside from the malt pipe…

This unit also comes with a removable grain basket for the hop additions and whatnots.

And who could forget about the pump immersion wort chiller?

Although there’s not much to be said about the wort chiller except that it took more time than I expected for it to do its job, I still like the fact that this unit comes with one which is a steal, considering its price point.

And finally, it has a built-in spigot to make the transferring of your wort from the vessel to fermentor much easier.

I’ve attached a tube to  my spigot as well to make the transmission meach neater and cleaner.

The RoboBrew V3 comes with a 120 Volt plug so it’s easier to carry around and use.

Durability

Once upon a time, durability was the number one issue with RoboBrew products.

Now in its newest version, we gotta give it to the company for improving the quality of the components greatly.

Although I’d say there are much more solid brewing systems in our list, the feel of its stainless steel materials seems like it’ll endure for a few more years.

Energy Efficiency

  • Dual heating element? Check.
  • Individual switches? Check.

It even has a 120 volt plug to make it more universal and easier to run.

But despite these great features, the wort chiller took quite a long time to do its job and the same kind of goes with the heating elements, thus deducting a couple of points from RoboBrew.
